Hey, it’s Lee!
In 2013, I bought my first business, a little online shop selling furniture mainly on Amazon. In 2015, my friend Ross joined me. We were already mates and I needed help running the growing business. When Brexit came, we had to change a few things. I thought, why not offer our services and some warehouse space to other small businesses like ours that were also feeling the squeeze.
We were already handling our own stuff pretty well, so I knew we could help others too, sharing costs and resources. After a call to Bob, my mentor, he mentioned he had already considered the same idea. So, we decided to start Simplee, with Ross, Bob, and I all shareholders. The Managing director role was offered to Ross, since Bob and I had our other businesses, we needed someone to take care of Simplee Fulfilment.

We officially started Simplee in August 2017. Before we even opened, we got our first customer, thanks to some networking with freight and logistic providers. Soon, our first 12,000 SQ FT warehouse was full working with four clients, by this point Lee had to be more hands on with growing demand. When one customer asked for more space, we had to find another warehouse. By November 2017, thanks to Bob, we got another 17,000 sq. ft.
Over to Ross!
I clearly remember looking at our cash flow forecast, realizing we had about three months before running out of money. It was a critical moment, with two sites and a combined 29,000 sq. ft.
Back to Both of Us!
In the next four to six weeks, we got enough business to fill our space with products from now five clients, and we were up to four permanent staff members. By the end of 2019, we were managing 74,000 sq. ft with ten clients. Working with other third-party logistics companies helped us grow. By 2020, Simplee had a total of 120,000 SQ FT of busy warehouse space. We now have 15 members of staff and offer add on services including admin, customer service and operations all in house.
